Current and new media these days revolve around connecting with those around us as well as those not so near. Google's SOS alerts allow us to stay updated on current and possible future natural disasters that effect people around the world. Well, they're getting an upgrade! Soon google will give us an upgraded and more detailed look into natural disaster occurring all over the world giving us a clearer look into the areas effected, the path of storms and hurricanes, the magnitude and aftermath of an earthquake and more, keeping us connected to the rest humanity and people we know that may be effected by these disasters over the world.
In a world where the most popular social media upgrades are changing to dark mode or a basic redesign of the same content, Google has chosen to really improve their nationwide alerts into real-time update on issues that effect humanity and peoples way of life. I think that focusing on crisis information and forecasts is important and can really help with not only keeping people safe and out of dangerous areas, but also creating worldwide awareness towards the aftermath and recovery of those affected by the disasters.
It is a breath of fresh air to see a company moving in a direction focused toward safety and awareness rather than gossip and opinion based content. They have created a new media perspective into disasters that have been around since the beginning of time. It has been geared to create accessible and searchable information straight into the palm of your hand to keep each and every person aware of current news events. I am definitely excited to see how many people will now use it to share issues or to help those that need it when these events occur.
